National Single Parents Day -- Sunday, March 20, 2011

The third Sunday in March is National Single Parents Day -- to empower those parents who are single handedly combining nurturing with breadwinning. More women are single parents than men. However, in the 21st century, National Single Parents Day is celebrated by women and men who have been widowed, divorced or never married.

The old saying says: "The hand that rocks the cradle rocks the nation." It does not matter whether the cradle-rocking is done by a female or a male. Love and nurturing is the important factor -- a necessary factor to produce a healthy child who can blossom into a mature adult.

The Coalition for Single Parents Day features a diamond. "Families are like diamonds -- precious and unique. There are so many types of diamonds and so many types of families. All families are precious like diamonds," says Janice S. Moglen, Executive Director, Coalition for Single Parents Day.
